So, it’s Singapore this weekend. It’s under lights you know. Button is on the verge of winning the World title, and that will be a great achievement in the Brawn that was nothing at the beginning of the year. But, why am I feeling so sad about the whole thing?
Ho-hum
Well, it’s Flavio’s fault, isn’t it? The heartless and cold way that he bullied the dashing Neslon last year into crashing and making Herman Munster win has left me with a very bitter taste in my mouth.
See, I’ve been involved in motorsport for a long time, 25 of my 30 years I’ve gone round the circuits. I’ve competed, I’ve watched, I’ve commentated and done pretty much everything that there can be done. I’ve always thought that motorsport had an honour above other sports. The stakes were just too high to risk a deliberate crash. Sure, you may tweak your wing, you may drill out your air filter but….do what Renault have done?
Just a little bit of cheating...
Can you imagine the meeting? “Nelson, to get a drive for next year, you must crash here. Then, Fernando will win and we’ll all be happy. Go on, endanger your life for the greater good. Wreck all of your mechanics work, stick your fingers up at your sponsors, do it not for you. Do it for the team.”
What was going through his head??
I really admire Nelson for coming forward in this, it has shaken Formula 1, and rightly so. The grid needs to take a long hard look at itself before it can move forward. The fact that this was even considered makes me feel ill. It’s so bad I might even consider watching NASCAR.
NASCAR - like the M6
Anyway, enough of my moaning, with the Brawn boys back, it looks like Alex will take the F1FTW title, unless I can think up a competition to stop her ;-) onto the season finale!

You would think we would be happy having something to talk about other than wrangling over rules .. but I would like to go back to the politics and infighting now please ;)
Risking drivers lives … you just wouldn’t think it possible
Not quite bad enough for me to dump F1 in favor of any other sport, yet.
I do quite like NASCAR, not sure I could sit through a whole one without a LOT of high calorie snacks though ;)
It’s bad news Chris, but as you say – let’s get back to the racing!
I’m not a fan of NASCAR, I like the corners to go both way in racing. But, they do have the honour of having the best named driver that ever competed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Trickle
The whole thing is absolutely astonishing and if I’d put it in a novel about F1, everyone would have said it was too far fetched.
A team principal who asks a driver to crash the car?
The driver agreeing in return for a contract for the next year?
Keeping it quiet for almost a year?
The principal then firing the driver despite the agreement? Doh?
The driver then ruining his own career by revealing all?
It’s so stupid it’s laughable!
Mike, you’re right! Seen that Renault have lost their sponsorship? What a terrible thing.
Oh well, an hour till free practice – so let’s concentrate on who’s going to win. I’d laugh if Alonso does!
