It’s taken me two days to get my breath back. What a race! Poor old Mark Webber, who cruised to a comfortable win, didn’t get a look in, as the cameras focused on career-best drives from Sebastien, Lewis and Jenson. It was scintillating, edge of the seat stuff that culminated in Jenson and Brawn winning both world titles.
We’ve talked in these columns about many of the things that are wrong with modern F1, but Interlagos provided us with a graphic example of all that is great about the sport. Key moments for me:
- Sutil and Trulli helmet to helmet
- Heikki setting fire to Kimi
- Jenson on finally passing Kobayashi “Yes, yes, let’s go!”
- Pass after pass with smoking left front tyres
- The Lewis / Rubens dice
- “We are the champions”
- Ross Brawn choked on live TV (So was I)
- Ross having the wherewithal to remember those who had been made redundant
- Rubens magnanimous in defeat
- Lewis magnanimous is handing over the title
It was all magnificent, and bodes so well for the future of the sport. And we still have Abu Dhabi to go!
So what about our little competition? Alex is our world champion, so huge congratulations to her, she never looked in any danger. Gareth can’t be caught for second place, so well done to him. Fantastic season, fantastic race and congratulations to Brawn and Button. What true gent Ross Brawn has shown himself to be.
As to the F1FTW competition congrats to Alex a spectacular set of choices. My season was bit like Brawn’s (without the winning part!!!) great start a mid season slump and hopefully a final flourish in Abu Dhabi.
Thanks to all for taking part and thanks to Gareth and Chris for the site and totting up the points!
Woohoo!!! We are the champions, oh make that I am :-))
That really was a fantastic race and a well deserved world champion in Jenson. Can’t wait for Abu Dhabi and good luck to all for 3rd place.
